What is hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy involves the therapeutic use of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state where we have access to unconscious resources and can accept positive suggestions to achieve the positive changes that we want.
When used by a properly trained hypnotherapist, hypnotherapy can be one of the most effective therapeutic methods for a wide range of issues. For stopping smoking, weight loss, relaxation, and a wide range of other issues, hypnotherapy can be incredibly effective. Does the hypnotherapist 'put the client under' or reprogram the client?
Absolutely not! There is a common misconception about hypnosis that the hypnotherapist essentially commands and controls the thoughts and behaviour of the client. This view has perhaps been popularised by films and stage hypnosis, where people apparently do bizarre things.
In reality, people will not do anything they do not want to in hypnosis. In a hypnotherapy session, the client follows the directions of the hypnotherapist and at no point will they accept any suggestions which they do not want to. People cannot be made to do anything they do not want to. For many people, hypnosis is one of the most relaxing and soothing experiences they have ever had. |
